Ecumenism and Compromise -- Adventist Servants of Rome / Prof Walter Veith Warning

THE WORK OF DJ MIXWELL

Let's consider the Community of Christian churches as the entire body of partygoers at the Diggie Club.

Who makes sure that everyone gets along and has a good time? Its DJ Mixwell. He plays a wide variety of music, and everybody has a good time.

THE MODERN CHRISTIAN EQUIVALENT

The work of DJ Mixwell in the Christian community is performed by the ecumenical movement.

"Ecumenism (also oecumenism, œcumenism) refers to initiatives aimed at greater religious unity or cooperation." (Ecumenism, Wikipedia)

REGULAR PARTICIPATION AT WORLD COUNCIL OF CHURCHES

"The WCC is the official organization of the ecumenical movement. Its headquarters is in Geneva, Switzerland. About 340 churches are members of the WCC, and they represent 592 million Christians. The purpose of the WCC is to promote Christian unity." (John Graz, Is The General Conference Involved in Ecumenism?, Reflections - A BRI Newsletter, Number 19, July 2007, p 2)

Needless to say, the Adventist church plays an active role in this ecumenical activity: On an ongoing basis, "Adventist observers attend the WCC Central Committee at their General Assembly." (Graz, supra, p 1) And has done so for years: "For many years the Adventist Church has engaged in conversations with representatives of other churches." (William G. Johnsson, Adventists and Muslims in Conversation - Breaking down prejudice by building bridges, Adventist World, April 2009, p 38)

There is, naturally, the old question:

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 2 Cor. 6:14

Obviously the Adventist theologians think there can be a lot of "communion" of "light with darkness": "I have been involved in these interchurch conversations for more than 20 years and am convinced that they are of significant value." (Johnsson, supra, p 39)

"The fallen denominational churches are Babylon. Babylon has been fostering poisonous doctrines, the wine of error." (Ellen White, Evangelism, p 365) Apparently the top Adventist theologians love the taste of this wine (shown here).

REFLECTS OFFICIAL CHURCH POLICY

And what does the Adventist church, as an official body, think of ecumenism? "Few would wish to deny that ecumenism has had laudable aims and some positive influences. Its great goal is visible Christian unity." http://www.adventist.org/beliefs/other_documents/other_doc3.html

Yes, the official Adventist website says: We like the idea of unity.

A SPECIAL AWARD FOR "THE ANTICHRIST"

Unity? What kind?

Back in the old days, Christendom was run from the Central. When the pope spoke, people obeyed. And if they weren't quick enough, or got some "funny" ideas, tools like immolation and the inquisition were available, and widely used.

But then the Protestant Reformation came around, and there was a long period of disunity. This involved major wars, and some heavy-duty preaching, with the pope often described as antichrist:

"When the papal bull reached Luther, he said: "I despise and attack it, as impious, false. . . . It is Christ Himself who is condemned therein. . . . I rejoice in having to bear such ills for the best of causes. Already I feel greater liberty in my heart; for at last I know that the pope is antichrist, and that his throne is that of Satan himself."--D'Aubigne, b. 6, ch. 9." (Ellen G. White, The Great Controversy, pp 141, 142)

"Dr. Bert B. Beach has served as General Secretary for the Seventh-day Adventist Council on Inter-Church Relations since 1980. He also served as secretary for the Conference of Secretaries of Christian World Communions from 1970-2002." http://parl.gc.adventist.org/aboutus/staff/beach.html Probably the high point of his unity work came when he presented a gold medal to his superintendent, the man that Luther and Ellen White described as antichrist, on 18 May 1977.

Dr. Beach had been doing ecumenical work in Rome, and had no problem getting in to see his boss. "In connection with a recent consultative meeting of secretaries of World Confessional Families held in Rome, B. B. Beach, secretary of the Northern Europe-West Africa Division, one of the 15 participants and the only Adventist in the group, presented a book and a medallion to Pope Paul VI on May 18.

WORSHIPING THE BEAST

The book presented was the Adventist missionary book Faith in Action, and the medallion was a gold-covered symbol of the Seventh-day Adventist Church." (W. D. Eva, Book, Medallion Presented to Pope, The Advent Review and Sabbath Herald, August 11, 1977, p 23)

Out in the churches, the faithful Adventist believers return their tithes to the storehouse, which spends the money on gold tribute for the head of their church (pictured at left).

Such a special award! And for what? "Looking back, Adventists see centuries of persecution and anti-Christian manifestations of the papal power." http://www.adventist.org/beliefs/other_documents/other_doc3.html Ellen White agrees: "the mandate of Rome was not without effect. Prison, torture, and sword were weapons potent to enforce obedience." (Ellen G. White, The Great Controversy, p 142)

GETTING IN BED WITH ROME

And the gold medal is just a token of what the Adventists have given up to get with Rome. They employ the same "monuments of idolatry" in worship as the papists. The Adventist church, as an organization, shows the same love of bowing down before graven images. "Besides a sinful union with the world, the churches that separated from Rome present other of her characteristics." (Ellen White, The Great Controversy, p 383)

Graven images which "mark" their places of worship are, of course, just an outward evidence of "resistance to Christ, even within the churches." (as per Bert Beach, Ecumenism: Boon or Bane?, Review and Herald, 1974, p. 289)

"The advancing centuries witnessed a constant increase of error in the doctrines put forth from Rome. Even before the establishment of the papacy, the teachings of heathen philosophers had received attention and exerted an influence in the church. Many who professed conversion still clung to the tenets of their pagan philosophy, and not only continued its study themselves, but urged it upon others as a means of extending their influence among the heathen. Serious errors were thus introduced into the Christian faith." (Ellen White, The Great Controversy, p 58)

Serious errors like those shown in the picture at right, viewed through the sacred grove on an Adventist high place.

As the official Adventist website puts it, "Adventist leaders should be known as bridge builders." http://www.adventist.org/beliefs/other_documents/other_doc3.html

In Ellen White's day, things were different:

"The world is against us, the popular churches are against us, the laws of the land will soon be against us. God has committed to us the special truths for this time to make known to the world." (Ellen White, Testimonies, vol. 5, p 236)

But nowadays, the truths have been toned down, and:

"Our presence in such a group, which represents the Christian world, has been extremely helpful for our church around the world. It has shown that we are a Christian Church recognized by the Christian family of leaders. We are not a cult or a dangerous group of fanatics, but a Christian denomination." (Graz, supra, p 2)

What priorities!

Sure the Bible has different ideas:

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2 (King James Version)

But that's the Bible. These men prefer the favor of Rome to the favor of the Lord.

Rome? Who do you think gets these ecumenical initiatives going?

"With the release of the open letter “A Common Word” on October 8, 2007, signed by 138 high-ranking Muslim clerics and leaders, the pace of interfaith engagement has accelerated. Now “dialogue” seems to have become the buzz word. The Vatican has set in motion ongoing conversations with leaders of Islam and the major Christian denominations, plus bodies like the World Council of Churches are meeting to decide their response to the invitation given in the open letter." (William G. Johnsson, Adventists and Muslims in Conversation - Breaking down prejudice by building bridges, Adventist World, April 2009, p 39)

And when the boss (at left) speaks, his faithful Jesuits obey.

"Ten days after the release of the open letter, the Adventist Church sent a reply to its framers, applauding their initiative and indicating our willingness to engage
in dialogue with Muslims." (William G. Johnsson, Adventists and Muslims in Conversation - Breaking down prejudice by building bridges, Adventist World, April 2009, p 39)

You see, they're just a "Christian Church", like all those others. "Many of the Protestant churches are following Rome's example of iniquitous connection with "the kings of the earth"--the state churches, by their relation to secular governments; and other denominations, by seeking the favor of the world. And the term "Babylon"--confusion--may be appropriately applied to these bodies, all professing to derive their doctrines from the Bible, yet divided into almost innumerable sects, with widely conflicting creeds and theories." (Ellen White, The Great Controversy, p 383)

ADVENTIST CHURCH GETS THE FAVOR OF THE WORLD

"Seeking the favor of the world"? "These encounters have resulted in much good, as stereotypes have been broken down and misunderstandings on both sides have been removed. On the Adventist side, a great benefit has been the dropping of the false designation of our church as a “cult” or “sect.”" (William G. Johnsson, Adventists and Muslims in Conversation - Breaking down prejudice by building bridges, Adventist World, April 2009, p 38)

BUT NOT EVERY ADVENTIST HAS GIVEN IN TO THE ALLURES OF BABYLON

There are plenty of individual believers out there who have remained faithful, but as Isaiah put it:

"My people, those who lead you cause you to err, and destroy the way of your paths." Isaiah 3:12, World English Bible

In the midst of this calculated deception, "God has not left Himself without witnesses among nations [and churches] living in spiritual darkness." (BIBLE QUESTIONS - Christ and Salvation, Adventist World, April 2009, p 40) " (id.)

FAITHFUL WATCHMEN

have sounded the alarm, including Dr. Colin Standish and Dr. Walter Veith. And the scholars of the Adventist Biblical Research Institute are thanking them? Not exactly. According to the BRI, Dr. Veith's teaching "has caused some stir and irritation among church members and pastors in various countries." (Johannes Kovar, Reflections - A BRI Newsletter, Number 21, January 2008, p 6)

WHEN "THE CLEAR WORD" IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH

The problem with Professor Veith is that he recommends respect for the holy scriptures as traditionally delivered. As we saw here, the Adventists wrote their own version of the Bible to give a boost to some of their favorite doctrines which are contrary to old versions of the Bible.

As they admit: "The Biblical Research Institute of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists (BRI) published several articles in the past suggesting not to rely on the KJV". (Johannes Kovar, Reflections - A BRI Newsletter, Number 21, January 2008, p 10) That's the King James Version of the Bible.

You know, the version of the Bible that speaks against sorcery, something that the Adventist BRI practices.

THEY HAVE A DREAM

You see, the Adventist Biblical Research Institute has a dream: "we should all become Catholics." (Johannes Kovar, Reflections - A BRI Newsletter, Number 21, January 2008, p 8) Many of the top Jesuits setting the agenda in this church are longing for the day when they can "come out of the closet", and wear their monastic robes around the Adventist HQ. But until that happy day comes, they're keeping busy with things like "demonic possession, ancestor veneration, witchcraft, magic and sorcery, traditional healing, and rites of passage". (Ángel Manuel Rodríguez, Preliminary Report on Spiritualism and the Church, Reflections - A BRI Newsletter, Number 19, July 2007, p 1)

TALK, TALK

While these men are busy with evil spirits, they still like to talk about the Holy Spirit, but:

"The Spirit implanted the grace of Christ in their hearts and without knowing about Jesus they have been blessed by His saving grace.

This work of the Spirit does not legitimize non-Christian religions or allow for religious pluralism." (Angel Manuel Rodríguez, BIBLE QUESTIONS - Christ and Salvation, Adventist World, April 2009, p 40)

But that's the Holy Spirit.

The Adventist church is into "religious pluralism" (ecumenism):

"Larger initiatives lie just ahead. We have developed an excellent relation with the directors of the Royal Jordanian Institute of Interfaith Studies, based in Amman, Jordan. The first of a series of official conversations has been planned for the near future." (Johnsson, supra, p 39)

These men are at the World Council of Churches, they hand out a gold medal to the pope, and adorn their churches with the trappings of Rome. And "This is just the beginning." (Johnsson, supra, p 39)

Since, according to Dr.
This work of the Spirit does not legitimize non-Christian religions or allow for religious pluralism." (Angel Manuel Rodríguez, supra), these apostles of ecumenism must be motivated by "other spirits":

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
1 Tim. 4:1
